‘Abd al-Rahman Jami, bore the honorary nicknames of ‘Imad ad-Din («Pillar of the Faith») and Nur ad-Din («Light of the Faith»), was born on 7 November 1414 in the village of Kharjerd, in the Iran district of Khorasan almost on the border with Afghanistan.His father Nizām al-Dīn Muhammad b. Shams al-Dīn was a theologian and lawyer and held a position of a judge in Kharjerd. Soon, the family shifted to the small town of Jam, near Herat.
